Remember a loved one this Christmas
Christmas is a special time of year and for many a time to reflect and remember family and friends who are no longer with us.
Our Light up a Life Service of Remembrance is a special time for many families across Jersey, who come together to remember a loved one. The service brings people together to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones through poems, hymns and the lighting of candles. Everyone is welcome, not just those touched by hospice care.
Every year, hundreds of people dedicate a light on our Christmas tree, in memory of a loved one and help to raise vital funds for Jersey Hospice Care. The lights will be lit for the first time during our Service of Remembrance and thereafter will be lit every evening between 16:00 and 22:00 until 6 January 2019.
Emelita Robbins, Chief Executive at Jersey Hospice Care, commented, ‘Christmas is traditionally a time to get together with family, friends and loved ones to celebrate together; but this can be difficult if that special person who lit up your life won’t be here to celebrate with you. Light up a Life give us the opportunity to remember them at this special time of year by dedicating a light that will shine all through Christmas and into the New Year.
‘The funds raised make a difference to the lives of local people with a life limiting illness, allowing us to continue providing excellent care to our patients and their loved ones.’
You can make a dedication in memory of a loved one on our website. A donation is requested and in return a special pin badge can be provided. Loved ones names can be listed in our Book of Remembrance, which can be viewed any time on our Reception from Monday 3 December. Our Light Up a Life Service of Remembrance takes place at Jersey Hospice Care on Saturday 1 December, starting at 16:30.
