Spiritual care helps us to draw upon things that we find comfort and strength in. We are all shaped by our unique journey through life; the people, relationships, places, stories and experiences that matter to us - these bring meaning to our lives and shape our personal sense of self, our spirituality.

The root word of ‘spirituality’ is the Latin word for breath. From this, we can ask: what is it that breathes life and meaning into this person? How do they make sense of their lives, of the world and their relationships with other people? In this sense, spiritual care is about what matters most deeply to people, whether they are religious or not.

When we go through change, loss, or hard times in life, and are trying to make sense of and respond to new circumstances, we draw upon these deep-rooted resources within us.
