Christmas tree collections a tree-mendous success!

The annual Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling Scheme in aid of Jersey Hospice Care has generated a record-breaking £35,471 in donations, and rising.

More than 2,130 trees were collected in the first week of January, by over 50 willing volunteers in 26 vans. The trees were then delivered to the Green Waste Recycling facilities to be turned into soil improver for local gardens and farmland, with the support of the States of Jersey Department for Infrastructure.

This year, thanks to the generosity of residents and businesses who supported scheme, the average donation increased by almost a pound, up to £16.48 compared to last year’s average of £15.50.  All funds will go towards enabling us to continue to provide palliative care for patients with a life-limiting condition in the community, hospital and at Hospice.

The annual Jersey Hospice Care Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling Scheme is sponsored by the Aztec Group and receives support from a variety of local businesses, including local garden centres, Webreality, Jersey Post, Randalls and Jersey Evening Post.

Tania Duncan, Head of Marketing at the Aztec Group, said, ‘The results of this year’s Christmas tree collection are wonderful. We are really proud to sponsor this initiative, which raises funds for an amazing local charity as well as positively impacts or local community and environment. Having sponsored this initiative since 2014, we’re excited to see it grow every year and provide valuable support to the Hospice.’

Sacha Patel, Income Generation Manager at Jersey Hospice Care, said, ‘This year has once again been a huge success and it would not have happened without the continued support from our community and our long-term sponsor the Aztec Group. The generosity of local businesses, residents and volunteers is astounding. Since the initiative launched in 2005, it has raised over £335,000, which is just amazing. Thank you to everyone who supported us!’
