Grief Disco

Date of Event: 3 Oct 2026

Join us on Saturday 3 October for our first Grief Disco hosted by the Community Bereavement Service.

The Grief Disco is a facilitated community experience that creates a safe, compassionate space for people to process grief through dance music, movement, and connection. It's not therapy, but it's deeply therapeutic.

At its heart, Grief Disco is built on a simple but powerful idea: that grief and joy can coexist and that moments of lightness can support healing, not take away from loss.

We know that many people navigating grief:

  • Feel isolated or unsure where they “fit” after loss

  • Struggle to access or engage with traditional support

  • Need spaces that feel human, informal, and accessible

Grief Disco offers:

  • A safe, inclusive environment where there's no pressure to talk or participate in any particular way

  • Opportunities for connection and community, reducing isolation

  • A gentle invitation back into the body through music and movement

  • A space where people can feel, remember, and even smile — without guilt

The experience includes thoughtful elements such as:

  • A “permission for joy” ritual, helping attendees release guilt around moments of lightness

  • Quiet areas and reflective activities for those who prefer stillness

  • Dancing to great music like a usual disco

Grief Disco has already been welcomed in a number of settings across the UK, including hospices and community venues, with feedback from attendees describing feeling, “lighter, seen, connected, held, and less alone”.

We dance to remember, not to forget.
