"It's something that happens to all of us and it should be a topic we're more comfortable discussing."
This week marks Dying Matters Awareness Week - a moment to encourage us all to get talking about death and dying in whatever way, shape, or form works for us. It affects us all, and yet 27% of people find it hard to talk about death with family or friends, and 30% bottle their feelings up (*Research from polling commissioned by Celebration Day in 2025). If we don’t talk about death and dying, and bereavement, it can be harder to cope when we experience it.
Aurélie Boas shares with us her experience of death and dying and bereavement. Her husband Simon, known for his passionate aid work and his writing - both for the Jersey Evening Post and his book, A Beginner's Guide to Dying, spoke (and wrote!) openly about facing death and all that goes with it.
Since then, Aurélie has continued his legacy, talking openly and honestly about what is typically a taboo topic, and navigating what it means to be bereaved and the impact it has on your life - and how important it is to talk about all of it.
