Hundreds of Islanders turned out on Sunday morning at the Hospice 10k in memory of a former police officer and footballer who died while playing for St John’s FC in 2009.

The Hospice 10k was originally started by the Lee family in memory of Jayson Lee, with the route going along all of his favourite spots including his home and school. They handed the baton over to Jersey Hospice Care two years ago to continue his legacy.

While fundraising is still being counted, the event is thought to have raised more than £8,000. The run has raised more than £100,000 since it first started – helping provide the vital funds for Hospice to continue running its much needed services.

Marina Brockbank, Community Engagement Officer at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “We were so pleased to have run yet another successful Hospice 10K and to still be working with the Lee family after all these years, keeping Jayson’s legacy going. The sun was shining at FB Fields creating perfect conditions for the runners and a great atmosphere for supporters. The 10K is a run, not a race, so it’s open to all abilities – and the community spirit was wonderful. I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part and all of those who supported including our incredible volunteers and our event sponsor, Titan Wealth.”

Haydn Taylor, chairman of Titan Wealth in Jersey, said: “What a fantastic morning of sporting enthusiasm and achievement raising money for Jersey Hospice Care – which continues to make an enormous difference to hundreds of Islanders every year. This is Titan Wealth’s second year of sponsoring the event and it was amazing to see so many people taking part.”

While the 10k is a run, not a race, we do know the speediest runners who took part. The fastest over the line overall was Josh Brien, followed by Ewan Pilley and Adam Harris. The fastest woman over the line was Francesca Monticelli, followed by Rosie Adamson and Natalie Hodge.
