Jersey Hospice Care has achieved its reaccreditation of the Gold Standards Framework Quality Hallmark Award! The final score for Hospice was 92 out of 100.

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) is a registered charity and has been the UK’s leading training provider for generalist frontline staff in caring for people in the last years of life for more than 25 years. GSF is a practical and evidence-based end of life care service improvement programme. It’s widely used in the UK and internationally across settings like general practice, care homes, hospitals, and hospices. It helps healthcare professionals identify patients nearing the end of life, assess their needs, plan care proactively, and deliver co-ordinated care aligned with patients' preferences.

GSF Accreditation serves as a benchmark of excellence, demonstrating that an organisation has embedded high-quality end of life care practices. The GSF Quality Hallmark Award acts as a kitemark for organisations that uphold the highest standards of care.

The panel highlighted the following areas as Hospice’s strengths:

  • Demonstration of the sustainability of the Gold Standards Framework
  • Clear ownership of the process by the whole team
  • The leadership, passion, and commitment to continually develop the service for the benefit of patients, their family, and the staff was very evident
  • Passionate team

Jocelyn O'Connell, Senior Nurse and In Patient Unit Manager said: “Completing the GSF portfolio was more than a task or a tick-box exercise – it was a journey. As a Nurse Manager, it made me reflect deeply on the heart of what we do every day: deliver compassionate, high-quality, patient-centred care.

There were moments of pride as I saw how far we’ve come as a team – the systems we've strengthened, the culture we've nurtured, and the unwavering commitment to excellence that runs through every layer of our Hospice.

There were also moments of challenge – balancing the demands of leadership with the depth of detail required by the framework. But those challenges became opportunities: to collaborate, to learn, and to celebrate every discipline that contributes to ‘gold standard care.’

Above all, completing the portfolio made me feel inspired and incredibly proud. Proud of the strength, compassion, and dedication of our team. It reaffirmed why we do what we do, and just how powerful we can be when we come together with purpose. Going for Gold wasn't just a project – it was a powerful reminder of the value we bring to every life we touch.”

Rose Naylor, Director of Palliative Care Services, said: “This is an amazing achievement, and demonstrates independent validation of the excellent care everyone at Jersey Hospice Care works so hard to deliver and support”
