Islanders gather for a special, candle-lit evening in memory of loved ones

Tuesday 20 May 2025

Join us for Candles on the Beach, a poignant event designed to commemorate the lives of people we've lost. Islanders are invited to gather at St Brelade’s Bay on the evening of Saturday 24 May 2025 as we illuminate the beach with candles in memory of our loved ones.

Emily Churchill, Spiritual Care Lead at Jersey Hospice Care said, “There’s something very supportive about coming together with others who are also missing someone who has died. So often we grieve alone, and we don’t consciously remind ourselves that we’re grieving because a life has been lived, memories have been created, and love has been shared. Coming to Candles on the Beach allows you to stand next to a stranger, and without sharing a word, you know that they understand.”

Scott Douglas, Events Manager for Jersey Hospice Care said, “This is a really special, one-of-a-kind event for the island for anyone who has lost a loved one – it’s not just for people who’ve been supported by Hospice. Hosting Candles on the Beach is one of the ways we can give back to our community and say thank you for their generosity and support.”

Those wanting to attend are encouraged to book in advance and to donate for their candle. The event will start at 20:30, with live music, special readings, and reflective time.
