Jersey Hospice Care is looking to recruit new Trustees on the Council this year, to complement the balance of existing skills, experience and knowledge.

About us

Jersey Hospice Care is an independent charity, providing free specialist palliative care services for any islander with a life limiting condition, caring for patients at home, in the community, at Hospice and at the hospital. We run a Day Hospice service and drop in sessions for anyone affected by a life limiting condition.

We also provide a free Community Bereavement Service.

A Council of Trustees oversees the activities and financial administration of the charity. Its focus is implementing the vision for services through the development of strategy, policy, good governance and compliance with the law.

Day to day running of Hospice is delegated to its Chief Executive Officer.

The role

The Council has a collectively responsible style that is cooperative yet challenging. Trustees are able, independent, genuinely interested in the role of Jersey Hospice Care and guided above all by a strong sense of duty to the Jersey community.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate proven leadership and governance skills, strategic vision and good communication skills. In order to improve the collective skills at Council, we are particularly seeking candidates with skills in :

  • delivery of clinical services,
  • retail experience in a multi-site operation, or
  • digital media, including current ICT expertise and the use of social media.

Jersey Hospice Care values diversity, equality and challenge discrimination. We are keen to have a Council that is representative of the whole community in Jersey.

The time commitment is 11 regular Council meetings, per annum, usually in the evening and around two hours in length, plus preparation for those meetings. Additional time commitments may arise in relation to areas for which specific Trustees are responsible.

The Trustee role is unpaid, although reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
