Share your story of the occupation and celebrate Liberation Day with Jersey Hospice Care
Jersey Hospice Care is opening its doors to islanders who may have been in the Channel Islands during the occupation, to help us celebrate Liberation Day.
In particular, we hope to welcome anyone who is living with, supporting or caring for someone with a life limiting illness.
This is one of the many ways we are reaching out to support our community, through our drop in service, Live & Learn. It was launched last year to help more islanders benefit from our expertise and care, without needing to be referred by a healthcare professional.
Live & Learn takes place every Thursday in our King Centre lounge, between 10.00 and 15.00 with a range of informal discussion and information sessions each week. Since it launched, it has gone from strength to strength. We regularly welcome up to 20 people who pop in for a chat, go along to the organised sessions or join the relaxation classes, arts and crafts or new book club.
Here’s what some of those coming along to Live & Learn have to say.
‘It’s nice meeting with people with the same problems’
‘It’s good for me to come here and talk in private about how I feel and to be listened to’
‘I wanted somewhere I could come that wasn’t intimidating’
‘I think that this is fantastic and the staff are all wonderful. I have learnt a great deal and I don’t think things need to improve!’
‘I found my first visit quite difficult – I was still really raw emotionally – but the ideas suggested were helpful and breathing especially to help relax’
‘Having something like this is needed and wonderful’
On Thursday 10 May, our Live & Learn team will be celebrating Liberation Day and we look forward to welcoming those who wish to talk about and share their or their loved ones experiences and stories. Our chef will be providing afternoon tea and we will be joined by Jersey Heritage, who will be coming along with some interesting objects from the archives and reminiscing.
More information about Live & Learn, is available on our website, where you can also find the timetable of sessions.
