Press release: Make time to move this March and support Jersey Hospice Care
Jersey Hospice Care invitesIslanders to get moving this spring with the launch of ‘Move it March’, a 31 day exercise challenge. This new event challenges participants to do 31 minutes of exercise or movement every day from the 1 to 31of March and to raise a minimum of £31 for Hospice through sponsorship. For more information or to sign up visit www.jerseyhospicecare.com/events.Registration is £5 per participant.
‘Move it March’ launches following the success of Hospice’s January walking challenge ‘Every Step Counts’, where over 150 Islanders took part in their own time, completing the equivalent number of steps it takes to summit Mount Everest and other famous mountains and raised over £11,000. The team at Jersey Hospice Care hope ‘Move it March’ will provide another motivational activity for Islanders to do that promotes wellbeing and is in line with Government guidelines. Participants can choose any form of movement they wish; running, cycling, yoga, star-jumps, dancing in the living room or simply walking the dog – anything goes. The real challenge will be making the effort to complete the 31 minutes every day.
Jersey Hospice Care Community and Events Co-ordinator, Marina Brockbank, said: “The positive feedback we received from ‘Every Step Counts’ was really encouraging and with an appetite from our supporters for more things to get involved in, we are delighted to set up ‘Move it March’ – especially with many of our usual events postponed due to COVID-19. A little bit of movement everyday goes a long way for our wellbeing, and this goes for fundraising too. Every penny raised helps us support the patients we care for, at Hospice and in the community.”
Each £31 that is raised – which is just £1 a day – could fund one hour of free confidential bereavement counselling for someone who is experiencing the loss of a loved one. This service is available to all Islanders, regardless of whether or not their loved one was cared for by the team at Hospice or how long ago the bereavement took place.
Marina added: “With the launch of ‘Move it March’, I am also really pleased to announce the launch of our Community Facebook group Jersey Hospice Care Community Fundraisers. Many individuals and business support Hospice in their own way throughout the year and we would love to bring this wonderful community together: whether someone shaves their head, runs a half marathon, bakes cakes for our nurses or hosts a scavenger hunt, we invite them to join the group and share what they’re up to and inspire and encourage each other.”
For more information or to sign up to ‘Move it March’, please visit www.jerseyhospicecare.com/events or find the event on Facebook. Registration is £5 per participant. The Jersey Hospice Care Community Fundraisers Facebook group is now live and will be offering exercise and movement ideas, motivation and encouragement for ‘Move it March’. Its focus, however, will be as a central support hub for all members of the community wishing to support Hospice.
