Fantastic start to the fun fundraiser, 30 Bays in 30 Days

Over 130 people came along to the opening swim of the charity fundraiser 30 Bays in 30 Days, with organisers declaring it the best start yet.

The first of the group swims took place at St Brelade’s Bay at 10.30 on Sunday 1 July. Everyone was able to pick up their new swimming hats and meet their fellow swimmers. They were joined by Plastic Free Jersey, who, as well as taking part in the swim, were encouraging swimmers to ‘take three for the sea’ or do a ‘two minute beach clean’ as part of their month long campaign to reduce single use plastic. Safety cover was provided by RNLI Lifeguards and Le Mourier Sea|Swim|Save.

So far, over 300 people have registered for the charity challenge, which is growing in popularity in the island’s calendar each year. Swimmers raise money for The National Trust for Jersey and Jersey Hospice Care.

Throughout the month, the challenge offers a fantastic opportunity to re-visit old family favourites, or discover new hidden treasures. Dips can be taken anytime; before work, at lunchtime, or a cooling swim at the end of the day. Swimmers can also go to more than one bay in a day to fit them all in – we’re told that some swimmers are attempting to do all 30 bays in one day!

Steven Hunt, Fundraising Chairman at Jersey Hospice Care, took part in the opening swim. He said, ‘We are delighted with the turn out on Sunday, particularly as it was looking likely that there would be rain. There was a fantastic atmosphere, with everyone looking forward to that first swim of the challenge. In the end, the conditions were perfect and the sea was surprisingly warm!’

Later in the day, two minibuses of swimmers wearing their new green swimming hats were spotted at Anne Port by Jersey Hospice Care’s Chief Executive, Emelita Robbins. They were trying to fit in as many bays as they could in one day.

There is still time to sign up as registration will remain open throughout the month. Please head to the event website for links to the registration page: There will be another group swim on 29 July to celebrate everyone’s efforts.

The event is generously supported by Network Insurance & Financial Planning, The Potting Shed and Fuse 2.
