Now in its 17th year, you are invited to spin to raise funds in memory of Jay Morris, a keen racing cyclist and founder member of the Velo Cycling Club, who died from cancer in 2003 aged 30.
We hope that approx 60 people will take part, led by Club Carrefour’s instructors, who give their time free of charge for the event, which is also supported by Mark Pickford Cycles.
The first event was set up to raise awareness of Jay’s illness and he was due to take part but he died a few weeks before it was scheduled to take place. Since then Jay’s family has organised an annual Spinathon as a tribute to Jay and as a fundraiser for Jersey Hospice Care.
Allocation of bikes and times
Once all registration forms are received, we will contact you to let you know your times and how many hours you will be spinning.
Time of Arrival
Please arrive at least half an hour before your allotted time to sign in and receive a t-shirt if required. This will give you enough time to say hello to everyone, change into your gym gear and set your cycle up.
Please bring your sponsorship money with you on the day of the event and give it to Jenny Morris for safekeeping. Cheques are obviously preferable to cash and should be made payable to Jersey Hospice Care Fundraising Ltd.
Drinks and food will be provided by our kind sponsors and Jay’s family and friends. There will be water, fruit, crisps, sandwiches etc. There will also be plenty of volunteers on hand to refill drinking bottles and bring snacks.
All participants will have use of the changing rooms, showers and steam rooms at Club Carrefour.
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas please contact any of the following organisers:
Alan, Jenny and Sam Morris 871559 (home) Alan Mobile 07797 763950
Mark Pickford 832280 (shop)
We would like to encourage everyone who takes part to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship. If you raise just £35 you would pay for one hour of support from a specialist children’s nurse for a child or young person with a life limiting condition.
You can set up your own sponsorship page here.
