About the Facilitators
Gail Edwards is the Nurse Champion at Jersey Hospice Care. Her primary role has been to support the implementation of the Gold Standards Framework throughout the community in Jersey. This evidenced based approach to end of life care helps develop the competency and confidence of staff to empower them to manage the palliative and end of life care needs of patients regardless of care setting.
Gail has spent 12 years in various nursing roles within Jersey Hospice Care, achieving a BSc Clinical Practice from the University of Southampton and is currently studying at Masters level. Gail is passionate about achieving ‘the one chance to get it right’ at the end of life by ensuring the right care is delivered to the right patient, at the right time, in the right place.
For this reason she works to improve her knowledge through continuous professional development and through delivering education in an engaging innovative style.
The one day course will cover:
- Advance Care Planning and Treatment Escalation Plan
- Gold Standards Framework : covering patient deterioration and recognition of dying for patients coded amber and red
- Symptom management and anticipatory prescribing
- Syringe pump : a practical session
- After death analysis
Who should attend?
An end of life care education course to support and up-skill registered nurses in care homes.
The aim of this course is to enhance end of life care in care homes.
Places are limited to 15 per session.
