The session is delivered by a team of health professional with specialist skills, experience and training in communication in palliative care. The facilitators include Judy Le Marquand, Practice Development Sister, Tracey Fallon, Specialist Palliative Care Nurse, and Lorraine Dyer, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care.
About the Facilitators
Judy Le Marquand is the Practice Development Sister for Jersey Hospice Care. Her background is in Medical, Surgical and Gynaecological Nursing but she has been working in palliative care for ten years and is currently studying at the Royal Marsden.
Judy’s role as Practice Development Sister aims to promote excellent standards in patient care. As palliative care is constantly evolving, her role is to maintain currency and disseminate changes in practice through both classroom education and role modelling.
Judy has a particular interest in Communication Skills and Palliative Symptom Control. She has trained in Advanced Facilitation with the Maguire Communication Skills Training Unit at The Christie School of Oncology
This course will aim to look at the following in more detail :
- Revise core communication skills
- Describe a communication skills model
- Increase knowledge of the evidence for the use of core skills
- Identify when core communication skills are being used
- Applying a positive change in your practice
Who should attend?
The course should be attended by qualified nurses and allied health care professionals, eg Occupational Therapist social workers, who are looking to enhance their competence and confidence in effective communication skills.
Places are limited to 12 per session.
The aim of this three hour workshop is to look at the evidence of why communication is so important in health care. To improve confidence in communication skills, particularly with sensitive conversations.
Payment is required to secure the course.
If you cancel the booking within 30 days of the course start date you will still be charged. We do accept replacement delegates up until the last minute or you could arrange to transfer your place onto a later course.
If Jersey Hospice Care has to cancel the course either due to not reaching minimum capacity for the course or due to an unavoidable event such as trainer sickness or adverse weather conditions, we will get in touch to offer an alternative future course date or to offer a refund.
