Teacher named Hospice Hero ahead of the Million Pound Lottery draw

Tuesday 02 Aug 2022

Jersey Hospice Care is delighted to announce Jacob Le Breton as one of the ball drawers for the Million Pound Lottery. Jacob was nominated as a Hospice Hero by a student's family, for his dedication, kindness and expertise as a teacher at Mont à L’Abbé and after receiving support in a public vote, he will be drawing one of the winning numbers at the live draw on Friday 5 August.

Jacob said “It is a real honour to have been named as a Community Hero by such an incredible charity as Hospice. Working with the amazing learners, families and staff team of Mont A l’Abbe is a true privilege and it means a lot to me, to hear how our work is having a positive impact.”

Each year, the Million Pound Lottery is highly anticipated in the Jersey events calendar. For Hospice, it is also a key event for them to give back to the community which supports them so faithfully every year, with a total of £1,300,000 given back in ten prizes. Building on this community spirit, Hospice launched the ball drawer competition last year as a way to recognise and celebrate the many heroes who go above and beyond supporting other islanders.

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “It has been wonderful hearing about so many inspiring people in our community, every nominee really is a Hospice Hero and we want to thank them for all they do. The Million Pound Lottery live draw is always a great evening full of anticipation and celebration and we are delighted to welcome Jacob as a Hospice Hero to draw one of the winning numbers, where he will be part of changing someone’s life forever.”

The Million Pound Lottery live draw is taking place on Friday 5 August from 5:30pm at The Drift, Royal Yacht Hotel.  It is an open event where islanders are invited to come along for free to watch, or it can be viewed online via a live stream on the Jersey Hospice Care Facebook page or via the link here - Jersey Hospice Care: Million Pound Lottery - LIVE DRAW - YouTube
