Coffee Shop - Pure Charity
Pure Charity is the coffee shop in the Central Market in St Helier, opposite the fountain.
£31,000 given to charity
At the end of two years of trading, Pure Charity Coffee Shop has awarded 100% of its net profits to two local charities – 80%, £24,992.80, to Jersey Hospice Care and 20%, £6,248.20, to Mont à L’Abbé school to help fund school equipment.
The coffee shop which is located in the central market was set up by islander Antonia Cook to help local charities. It’s run by two full time members of staff and a group of about 15 volunteers who help with everything including preparing and cooking food, washing up and serving members of the public.
500 cupcakes sold per week!
Pure Charity offers a wide selection of food and drinks including sandwiches, paninis, wraps, jacket potatoes, cupcakes and homemade cakes. The cupcakes are becoming very popular with about 500 sold each week for various birthday, family and office celebrations, weddings and christenings. Chips and dips and a Friday and Saturday hog roast option will also soon be added to the menu.
The Pure Charity coffee shop is, as the name suggests, a purely charitable venture with 80% of its net profits being donated to Jersey Hospice Care (and the remaining 20% to CLIC Sargeant).
The cafe offers ’great food for a great reason’ and aims to source produce and supplies locally wherever possible. It’s very much a community project.
Lynsey Beahan, Fundraising Manager of Jersey Hospice Care said: "What the Pure Charity staff and volunteers do is fantastic – all their hard work and efforts are completely devoted to charity and that’s quite remarkable. We’re so very grateful to everyone involved and to all the customers who support what they do."
Pink theme
Each year Jersey Hospice Care will receive 80% of net profits while a different children’s charity will be selected annually to receive 20%. For 2011 CLIC Sargent (Jersey), which provides financial and emotional support to children and teenagers up to the age of 21 who are diagnosed with all forms of cancer, has been chosen to benefit.
To mark this, there’ll be a distinct pink theme, including pink cupcakes and pink meal deals, in the coffee shop between the 16 and 20 May 2011 with representatives from the charity helping as well as talking to customers more about what they do.
