About Us
Jersey Hospice Care was founded in 1982 with the Home Care Service. With the opening of Clarkson House at Grouville in 1985, a fully comprehensive service was developed including: Home Care, Day Hospice and In-patient Unit for those who needed care. Often a combination of two or more of these options is used to give the most appropriate form of care. In addition, Jersey Hospice Care also provides a Bereavement Service and accepts referrals from both colleagues within Jersey Hospice Care and from within the Island community.
As the demand for services offered by Jersey Hospice Care grew, the opportunity to acquire more spacious accommodation at Le Mont Cochon came about in 1995. Through the generosity of the people of Jersey it is now possible to offer a comprehensive service based at this very attractive site at Le Mont Cochon.
In addition to the specialist nursing staff, there are nursing auxiliaries, cooks, cleaners and administration staff, in order to provide the full range of services.
Jersey Hospice Care also relies on a team of volunteers, who provide valuable help across the service. Before volunteers are allowed to work with patients and their families they must undertake comprehensive training and selection process. Volunteers are also used in all aspects of fundraising, including the Jersey Hospice Care shops.
Jersey Hospice Care has a chaplaincy team, comprising inter-denominational ministers who are available to visit patients, relatives or members of staff as required.
Jersey Hospice Care is administered by a Council, with a number of sub-committees, responsible for managing the various services.
Jersey Hospice Care makes no charge to its patients. We do not receive a grant from the States of Jersey and rely entirely on the generosity of the public.
