Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk
Charity walk celebrates 10th anniversary
Total raised £10,385.78
The Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The charitable walk, which raises money for Jersey Hospice Care, was the first of its kind to be organised along the front at St Aubin’s Bay and takes place each year on Good Friday. This year, participants set off on 21st March from the entrance to the first lay-by at West Park and walk to St Aubin and back again.
Volunteer organiser Louise Minier says: ‘The Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk has been running for a decade now and seems to grow each year, with up to 300 people taking part last year. It is very much a family event and we hope that plenty of parents and their children help us to mark this special anniversary year, with the added incentive of an Easter egg for every child who takes part.’
The first walk was organised by Doreen Hennessy herself ten years ago to raise money to help buy a MRI scanner for the General Hospital. It was such a success that it became an annual event and Jersey Hospice Care was chosen as the ongoing charitable recipient. Doreen has this year retired from organising the walk but not before knowing that her event has so far raised over £175,000 for Hospice.
Thanks to everyone who made this possible!!
