Destination Monaco for Hospice’s glamorous
new treasure hunt
An exciting new fundraising event which will see teams travelling from Jersey to Monaco on a rally-style treasure hunt was launched 1st November.
The Gallery Monaco Rally 2008, in association with Gallery Magazine, takes place in May next year and aims to raise £45,000 for Jersey Hospice Care. It involves up to 30 teams of two driving through beautiful French countryside and a hair-raising route over the Pyrenees over four days as they go in search of clues to win the rally.
Katrina Bell, Hospice’s fundraising manager, says: ’We are very excited about launching what can only be described as a fundraising adventure. The purpose of the Gallery Monaco Rally is to have a lot of fun while raising money for Hospice, and there is nothing else quite like it on Jersey’s fundraising calendar. You don’t have to have an expensive car to take part but you do need a sense of adventure, a sense of humour and a compass!’
Leaving Jersey on Friday 9th May, participants and their vehicles will take the boat to St Malo to begin the four-day treasure hunt, finishing in glamorous Monaco on Monday 12th May.
Each day, competitors will be given a sheet of cryptic clues that they must solve to find out where they are going next. They will also need to find some piece of information in each location before they can move on to the next destination.
All the cars will meet up each evening in a designated hotel for a dinner and chance to swap stories and adventures over good food and wine.
Formerly known as the Tour de la Liberation, the event has been re-branded and re-launched with a new impetus behind it. Katrina says: ’The Tour de la Liberation was one of Jersey’s regular fundraising events and when the previous organisers said that they felt it was time for it to have a new charitable cause and a fresh start, we jumped at the chance to take it over.
’We are delighted to have been able to join forces with Gallery Magazine for the rally, and Sure Mobile, the Royal Yacht Hotel and Jacksons are all providing fantastic prizes for the lucky winners. There is already a great deal of excitement surrounding the event and we hope that places will be much sought after.’
Each team of two taking part in the rally must pay £1,000 to cover ferry, hotel and meal costs. They must also raise a further £1,500 for Hospice. However, as an added incentive, the fundraising operates on a sliding scale; this means that the more you raise, the less you pay toward the trip.
