Downhill Mountain Bike Festival 2008

A Mountain Bike Festival will take place in Jersey at Greve de Lecq Woods on the 11th & 12th October 2008.
The event is in its third year and is set to be much bigger than the opening event of 2006 which saw over 70 riders compete in a long descent through the woods at Greve de Lecq.  The event has been organised and conceived by Aaron Lappage of Jersey Bike Repairs.  Aaron has raced Downhill at National level in the UK and all over the world and has recently returned to Jersey and organised the event  to raise funds for Jersey Hospice Care.  The festival will continue to grow year by year and events will be added in order to achieve this there are plans for a tarmac descent with a water jump finish, 24 hour race and XC race in development.

The format for this year’s event is to build on the success of last year in which over 70 riders competed.  The 2008 festival will introduce a spectacular super steep and technical downhill named “the Super G”.  The course will be specially constructed solely for the event with 100 tonnes of earth in the bottom field, jumps, drop offs and an impressive wall ride and a gnarly off camber ribbon of singletrack.  The “Super J” adult and junior race will follow the same format as last year however this year heralds the inclusion of a junior section to encourage development of mountain-biking in Jersey.  Technical “teach ins” will be accessible to all youngsters that take part to help expand skills and enhance confidence.  The super J adult event was won last year by local mountain biker and former moto-x racer Michael Boarer, his thoughts on the event are as follows: “I had a great time at the event last year.  The event attracted a large number of competitors from Jersey, Guernsey as well as the UK and Poland, this year I am looking forward to defending my title as well as competing in the “Super G” race”.

The Mountain Bike Festival will also be supported by Local musicians who will be performing at the Moulin de Lecq in the evening on both nights.

The official race entry and sponsorship forms are available to download from www.jerseybikerepairs.com, www.jerseyhospicecare.com as well as Surf Dive and Ski and Freedom.  Check out local press and media for details.  Special thanks is given to the land owners who in no distinctive order are Mr and Mrs Hall, The Moulin de Lecq, Ken Syvret, Ernie Le Feuvre, Dolce Jones and the JNWW Company.  The permission given by these people come with a request from the organisers that there shall be no riding on the courses prior to official practice, the illegal riding of the course will place the event in jeopardy and should at no point be partaken in by any rider.

Jersey Bike Repairs wish to invite all riders to participate and enjoy the 2007 Jersey Hospice Care Downhill Mountain Bike Festival.
