Atlantic Waterbabes

The Dominion Atlantic Waterbabes (Karen, Kiley, Sarah and Jo) have completed their challenge of rowing across the Atlantic!

After a little over 75 days at sea, the girls reached Antigua safe and sound on Saturday 20th March 2010, in an exact time of 75 days, 8 hours and 59 minutes. The team have yet to have their winning position announced, but they think they have been placed 11th overall - an amazing achievement.

Friends and family were waiting in Antigua for the girls and it was an exciting time for everyone when they finally arrived. The girls received a very warm welcome and were looking forward to some decent food, as well as a good night’s sleep!

Their aim was to complete the 2,900 nautical mile Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Challenge from La Gomera to Antigua.

The race, organised by Woodvale Atlantic Challenge, saw the Jersey based crew competing against 35 other crews from across the world. The Atlantic WaterBabes were one of only two women’s fours taking part in this race and their aim was to become the fifth women’s four to complete the race.

More people have climbed Everest than have rowed across the Atlantic Ocean.

While raising funds to cover the expenses of their trip, the girls donated half of all proceeds from their fund-raising events in Jersey, to Jersey Hospice Care. Everyone at Jersey Hospice Care would like to thank the girls for competing in the race and for supporting our charity.

You can read more about the girls and their trip on their website.
