Milos Kayaking Trip Charity Challenge
A group of dedicated kayakers have completed their trip of a lifetime in the Greek Island of Milos, in the Agean Sea. Their mission, was to circumnavigate the 14 x 8 mile island of Milos which they completed today at 2.15pm.
Surf and Sun Watersports have organised the trip and the kayakers have been fundraising for Jersey Hospice Care and Centre Point Trust.
A few messages from our kayakers:
29.10.10 "It’s been a good week, with particularly hard paddling conditions the last 2 days. The camping was amazing - on an isolated beach, thunder and lightening, tents blowing into the sea, the sea roaring in all night and a great camp fire. The following morning we had to launch into particularly big waves and paddle very hard for an hour or so in big waves and a heavy swell. By the end we did the entire island of Milos in 4 days covering about 100 kilometres! Today has been on foot, with a wander around visiting the ancient burial site and ampitheatre. The younger ones have gone to the airport in a bid to travel to Athens tonight. They’ve all been brilliant throughout and worked really hard in the kayaks. The airport here can only fly 20 at a time (small runway) so the remainder of the group head to Athens tomorrow. The group have been superb!"
28.10.10 "We have just completed the Milos Kayaking Challenge! We had a spectacular night camping last night, thunder and lightening and tents blowing away! But everyone’s ok and we’re so pleased to have completed the Challenge!"
27.10.10 "Everyone well. Tougher conditions today. Just landed on a totally isolated beach where we are pitching camp. Everyone out hunting wood for the fire, getting into warm clothes and starting to look back on the highlights of the day :-). Everyone in good spirits and nobody has capsized yet!"
26.10.10 "Hi, just back from a good day. Everyone well. Weather looks like it may get worse tomorrow. Some of us paddled to an uninhabited island that just had a church. Pretty amazing! Some people did the highest cliff jump ever!"
